THE ARC OF BALTIMORE‘S “ART IN THE ROUND” FEATURES ARTWORK CREATED BY PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES

BALTIMORE, MD (11/1/10) — The Arc of Baltimore will present “Art in the Round” - the ninth annual exhibit and silent auction featuring art created by people with developmental disabilities - on Friday, November 12.

To be held from 7 - 10 p.m. at the American Visionary Art Museum, 800 Key Highway
in Downtown Baltimore, Art in the Round has become a “can’t miss” event on

Baltimore’s fall social calendar.

This year, Art in the Round will feature a 75-piece exhibit of art created by individuals with developmental disabilities. Artwork includes an eclectic combination of works from paintings, drawings, and watercolors to sculptures and ceramics.

In addition, clay, mosaic, and tile works created by a group of Arc supported individuals who have spent the past six weeks at Baltimore Clayworks will be on display.

Beyond the art exhibit, attendees will be able to enjoy a cocktail reception featuring hors d’oeuvres, beverages, desserts, and a wine-tasting sponsored by Beltway Fine Wine.

Proceeds from Art in the Round help to fund future art programs, classes, workshops, and training programs for people with developmental disabilities. Featured artists will receive 60 percent of the winning bid for each piece of art sold. In addition, The Arc of Baltimore will give a financial award to the artist whose work is chosen to be used for next year’s Art in the Round promotional poster.

ATTORNEY JAMES LIST TO PRESENT “FUTURE PLANNING” WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES

BALTIMORE, MD (10/25/10) — Parents and guardians of children with developmental disabilities are invited to attend a workshop on trusts, guardianship, and supports needed in the future, presented by James A. List, founding partner of The Law Offices of James A. List, LLC, a Mid-Atlantic law firm which focuses a substantial part of its practice on working with families with developmentally disabled members.

To be presented November 9 from 6 - 9 p.m. at The Arc of Baltimore’s Seton Business Park facility (6151 Metro Drive in Baltimore City), the workshop is part of The Arc’s Family Support Workshop Series. The series is designed to help families and caregivers gain a deeper understanding of various topics regarding children with special needs.

“No matter what age, planning for the future of your child is an important and difficult process,” explains Mr. List. “In this workshop, we will help parents and guardians explore the often complex issues surrounding surrogate decision making, guardianships, trusts, and applying for public benefits.”

Joining Mr. List for the presentation will be social worker Gerrie Stancik-Bender.

In addition to its work with families which have members with developmental disabilities, The Law Offices of James A. List. LLC serves business owners and individuals with real estate, estate planning, asset protection, and trust needs. In the estate planning area, the firm counsels clients in the use of asset protection trusts, special needs trusts, and dynasty trusts; traditional wills and revocable and irrevocable trusts; and powers of attorney and medical directives.

Following the formal presentation, The Arc of Baltimore workshop will feature an opportunity for participants to share or ask questions. A light dinner will be provided, as well as childcare for families unable to locate someone to care for their children.
